LFW SS17 – Xu Zhi

One of the highlights for me this LFW was Xu Zhi’s SS17 presentation last Saturday. He continued one of his key techniques of braided yarns, but also incorporated some lighter pieces, in terms of fabrics and technique. Xu was highly inspired by impressionist painter Monet this season, both visually and conceptually. Working strands of fabric and braids to create textures similar to the whimsical brush stroked of Monet, as well as the color palette being described as a mixture of the garden itself, with forest green and field yellow, blended with greys, blues and a strong slate black. Also working more denim into the collection after having introduced it quite recently to his collections, along side braided chiffons, silk organza and Japanese satin, as well as of course wool (in collaboration with Woolmark) and cotton twill.
