Dream Wife at Vega
Dream Wife have quickly gained the attention of people all around the world with their unique sound and live performance. The Brighton/Reykjavik trio recently toured with Sleigh Bells and The Kills and after performing at SXSW NPR, DIY, Sterogum and Nylon´s eyes were on them. After releasing their first album last January it seems like they have the whole world in the palm of their hands and nothing will be able to stop them.
Are Dream Wife the wifes of our dreams?
We’re here to bring all the wifes together in solidarity at the rock show. It’s a dream like scenario. Did you know that originally the word wife meant women back in the hay day?
Tell us the story behind the Dream Wife name?
We all came together and formed this band in art school in Brighton. We actually decided on the name before even making music together. Dream Wife is a fun word play. It is in itself a commentary on the objectification of women; the 1950’s american dream stereotype package; having the dream house, the dream job, the dream car and… the dream wife. Objectifying a women. We want to flip the script on that absurd expectation of the woman. Women aren’t objects; we don’t just fit to one mould. We have so many faces and we like to explore through our songs. At the start we joke around calling each other our wives, but through supporting one another, celebrating achievements together and finding strength in female solidarity we’re reclaiming the concept of a wife. Being in a band is a marriage itself of course.
You just released your first album. What is your favourite single on it?
Yeah ridiculous! It’s our debut album so it’s an emotional ride. I genuine love them all and it fits well together as a whole. You gotta love your first born right ? I’ll pick Hey Heartbreaker!
Koala bear or a kangaroo?
We just came back home from touring all around Australia and yes we met a kangaroo. It was amazing. Her name is Lucy and we fed her carrots and corn. Magical moments.
Pink or red? Depends on the mood.
Queer Eye or Queer Eye for the Straight Guy? WHEN IS SEASON TWO STARTING I CANT I CANT WAIT!!! I cried, laughed and learned something new from each Queer Eye Netflix episode. The best TV reality show.
If you happen to be in Copenhagen don´t forget to get your tickets here for Dream Wife´s show on the 10th of March at VEGA. See you there!
