The talented magic lady Barbara í Gongini showcased her SS13 collection at Copenhagen Fashion Week. With big fury wigs, long silk dresses, leather jackets and super hot latex stockings Barbara made a great collection that oozed with attitude. Bast asked Barbara a few questions about the collection:
HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A FASHION SHOW? A chronological planning is required in various areas: negotiating the place of venue, prices, dates & time, all according to when the press and buyers are available. Then the visual concept, the building of the set, the styling of shoes, stockings, accessories, hair and make up etc. Next the alliance with a film artist and a sound crew to create the visuals and the audio sound to support the presentation. Hiring the backstage crew is also of utmost importance, having the best dressers, runners, choreographers, seaters etc. So, all in all, it's quite a puzzle.
WHERE DOES THE ANDROGYNOUS STYLE COME FROM? I think it's a cultural thing, coming from a small isolated community up north where weather conditions are somewhat more designed for fish and sheep (constant fog, rain and furious weather gods at play), there is an immediate need for practical clouding where the challenge is to integrate a modern and futuristic expression . Another aspect is my fascination with exploring the unwritten borderline that defines the sexes and push it to it's limit to redefine it.
WHICH FABRIC IS YOUR FAVORITE TO WORK WITH? I like various groups within the textiles but my choice is often something that tips over to a moist or a dry expression. The interplay between those two outer points is very much where my esthetic defines itself.
WHAT KIND OF A WOMAN WEARS YOUR DESIGN? A timeless no aged woman.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT DANSIH FASHION? Interesting. Something is clearly happening underneath the polished surface … a revealing free creative spirit is pushing up to the surface.
IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE ONE ITEM FROM THE SS13 COLLECTION TO SAVE FROM FIRE WHAT WOULD IT BE? haha that is a difficult one … but I would throw myself at the leather pieces or silk dresses.
WHAT IS THE LAST THING YOU BOUGHT? A way too expensive face cream.
WHAT SITES DO YOU VISIT EVERYDAY? I am a dinosaur … I don't surf the internet.
FAVORITE SONG AT THE MOMENT? I just attended the Coldplay concert in Copenhagen last week … and what an explosive, colorful and brilliant performance the guys gave! I was very impressed.
